Family Activity – Gratitude Mapping Game

Gratitude Mapping Game

How It Works:

  • As a family, brainstorm and write down people, groups, or services (such as neighbors, teachers, grocery workers, crosswalk attendants, bus drivers, etc.) that support your family. Write these things around the house.
  • Ask your child questions like:
    • “How do these people help us?”
    • “What might happen if one of these helpers wasn’t there?”
    • “How can we show them our appreciation?”

What You Need:

This activity helps children see the invisible web of support in their community, showing them that people are connected in ways we don’t always notice, and everyone plays a part in helping each other. For example, farmers grow food, truck drivers deliver it to stores, and cashiers sell it to us, so we have meals to eat. Teachers help kids learn, and doctors keep families healthy. Even small acts, like a neighbor holding the door open or a volunteer cleaning a park, make life easier for others. This web shows that communities work best when people support one another, even in ways we might not always see.

Helping children grasp ideas like this at a young age helps them understand through real life examples how important kindness is and that it helps maintain community wellness. It encourages them to think creatively about how to give back or express thanks.

When you complete this activity, take a picture and share with @TheNestSchool on social media, we are excited to see all of the ideas your families come up with!
