Pre-K – Year 2

Parrots

This program is offered at our Avon, Barrington, Bath, Brecksville, Crystal Lake, Dublin, Hamden, Muirfield, Plano, Shaker Heights, Simsbury, Solon, Strongsville, Vandalia, Wallingford, and Westlake schools.

Our Pre-K Masters program is thoughtfully designed for children who need a third year of preschool, whether due to a late birthday, developmental readiness, or simply the need for an extra year to grow before starting kindergarten. This Pre-K bridge program provides the perfect balance of academic skill-building and social-emotional development to ensure your child enters elementary school confident, capable, and excited to learn.

Building on the foundation of our Robins program, Pre-K Masters is a discovery-based program designed to nurture the whole child and build a strong foundation for learning. Aligned with nationally recognized kindergarten readiness expectations, state early learning standards, and NAEYC best practices for teaching in early childhood, Pre-K Masters blends academic skill-based workshops with hands-on exploration to foster independence, problem-solving, and cognitive growth in young children. Within this program, children will engage in literacy, math, science, and social-emotional learning using discovery themes to make real-world connections and support life-long learning.

Academic Skill-based Workshops

Our workshops are one-hour learning blocks that target key academic areas—literacy, writing, science, and math—through a structured, three-part format:

Learning Focus

Each session begins with a short, 5–7-minute mini lesson introducing a specific concept or skill. This sparks curiosity and sets the stage for deeper exploration. Lessons end with a focus question to guide thinking during hands-on learning.

Discovery Experiences

Children engage in small-group, hands-on activities tied to the lesson’s concept. They choose learning areas that encourage exploration, application of new skills, and revisit past learning—supported by teacher guidance and observation.

Reflection

Workshops wrap up with a group reflection. Children share how they applied what they learned—whether through writing, storytelling, dramatic play, or construction—connecting the skill to their personal experience.

Inside pre-k masters

🌟 Discovery Experiences

Hands-on exploration and real-world connections are at the heart of how young children learn best. Through engaging, hands-on activities, children build foundational skills in literacy, math, science, and social-emotional development—sparking curiosity and a lifelong love of learning.

🎒 Building School Readiness

Readiness means more than just academics. We nurture the whole child—building their confidence, curiosity, and excitement for learning, while strengthening the skills they need to thrive in both school and life.

📖 Early Literacy & Pre-Reading Skills

We place a strong focus on early literacy development. Through literacy workshops and unit vocabulary, children gain skills like recognizing sounds, syllables, and rhymes—laying the groundwork for future reading and writing success.

🔤 Aligned with the Science of Reading

We use the Heggerty Phonemic Awareness Curriculum to help children build essential pre-reading skills. Through fun, focused activities, they learn to hear and manipulate individual sounds in words while strengthening their understanding of how letters and sounds work together—laying the foundation for confident, capable readers.

🧠 Critical Thinking & Problem-Solving

Children will learn how to think critically, ask questions, and solve problems—skills that are essential for future learning and success in school.

🔄 Connecting Learning Across Subjects

Through discovery-based themes, we help children see the connections between subjects like literacy, math, science, and social studies—making learning more meaningful and relevant to their everyday lives.

😊 Fostering Independence & Confidence

We empower children to take ownership of their learning. As they explore, make decisions, and grow, they build independence and self-regulation—key ingredients for confidence in the classroom and beyond.

💬 Social-Emotional Growth

We prioritize skills like empathy, communication, and collaboration. By developing these early, children learn to build strong relationships, express themselves positively, and feel good about who they are.
